Service Dogs

***All clients interested in help with a service dog or service dog in training must first fill out the inquiry form located at the bottom of this page***

Screening, Consult & Assessment

Before starting private lessons a client must complete a Zoom or in person consultation and their dog will need to complete an assessment. Alternate arrangements can be made for clients who do not live close enough for an in person assessment of their dog.

Consults include:

  • A discussion of laws and best practices
  • A review of what training has taken place and what the owners current training goals are
  • An explanation of the test items that will be used in my assessment
  • An explanation of resources and local partnering agencies

Assessments include:

  • Meeting the dog and assessing social skills and level of handler focus
  • Performing an evaluation of skills
  • Creating a training plan & determining what skills need more work

Candidate Selection Assistance

It can be incredibly overwhelming to navigate obtaining a service dog candidate. I am happy to help with that process. I can assist with any of the following steps:

  • Selecting a breed
  • Selecting a reputable breeder
  • Finding a reputable rescue
  • Guidance on what to look for in an adult dog

I require a one hour consultation before we start looking at service dog candidate options, this is to assess if I believe I can help you and to help me determine if I think a service dog is a good fit for your needs. Please also be sure to fill out the inquiry form listed below.

Private Lessons

One hour lessons can be done in person, via Zoom, or by phone. We can cover any of the following topics:

  • Public access training and testing
  • Task training
  • Work training
  • Basic obedience and socialization geared specifically towards service dogs in training
  • Selecting a service dog candidate

Important Notes:

All payments must be made prior to an appointment.

Clients must be able to send and receive text messages and emails as well as complete a new client form online.

Clients must be over 18 years of age.

Consults and assessments do not guarantee I will agree to work with a dog and handler on service work training. I may require a consult first before the purchase of a package. If someone does not qualify for a service dog, if I feel the dog is not a good fit for the type of work the handler wants to do, or if the handler is unable or unwilling to adhere to local, state and federal laws I may decline to continue training.

In person private lessons are available for clients who live within 10 miles of Topeka city limits. Clients who live more than 10 miles outside the city limits may be charged a travel fee. Packages may not be available if you live more than 10 miles outside of Topeka city limits.
